Marcia is a seasoned professional with over 25 years experience in training; consulting; writing and editing; public speaking; individual, family and group counseling; supervision; program development and management; fiscal planning and management; and volunteer management.

CAREER EXPERIENCE

Adjunct Faculty - Indiana University Kokomo campus teaching psychology, communications, speech, and freshmen seminar coursework. Member of the Women's Studies Council.

Business consultant in Indiana and Michigan. Presented workshops, speaking engagements and specialized consultation services on a verity of personnel and professional growth topics including conflict resolution, business communications skills, management by objectives (MBO) issues, employee motivation techniques, short and long term planning, and cultural diversity training.

Freelance writer and editor. Co-author with William Dunlop Jr. of the book, The Indians of Hungry Hollow, recently published by the University of Michigan Press. The book describes, through the methodology of story-telling, life in a Native American community in Northern Michigan in the early twentieth century. The book is of historical and anthropological significance as well as being entertaining.

Director of Human Services,Grand Rapids (MI) Inter-Tribal Council. Developed and supervised programs with a special emphasis on women's issues. Supervised human services personnel and negotiated agency service contracts. Supervised accreditation reviews, developed and managed human services budgets.

Executive Director, Common Ground Clinic, Kokomo, Indiana. As the chief executive officer of this United Way service agency, procured agency funding through diverse sources including the United Way and various government programs, supervised daily operations and personnel including over 70 community volunteers. Directed the activities of the community Crisis Hotline which acted in crisis intervention and as a community resource referral service.

Private Practice Psychiatric Therapist. Maintained a caseload averaging 25 to 30 counseling sessions each week for many years. These included family, individual, and marital counseling modalities. Continues to practice individual and couple counseling on a limited basis presently.

President and Founder, Nisswi Ishkoden. This Native America not-for-profit organization was founded to promote the recording of storytelling, community gatherings, and other Native American cultural events in Michigan.
